
Hyun is a Research Assistant at the University of Florida, specializing in Coastal and Oceanographic Engineering. He earned his first Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from Osaka University in 2020, where he focused on the application of artificial intelligence in beach nourishment projects.
He is currently completing a second Ph.D. in Coastal and Oceanographic Engineering at the University of Florida, with expected graduation in August 2025.
In Fall 2025, he will join Old Dominion University as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, focusing on Coastal Engineering.
His research bridges disciplines, integrating advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence and digital twin systems into coastal resilience and water infrastructure planning.
Hyun has been recognized internationally for his work, serving on the Executive Board of PIANC (The World Association for Waterborne Transport Infrastructure) and actively contributing to research and policy in waterborne transport infrastructure and sustainable coastal development.
